Soundproofing of the wall takes 12-13 cm.

Step 1

Before starting works related to soundproofing of walls, examine the walls for cracks thoroughly and tap them to find any possible internal voids. Cracks should be pointed and filled up with gypsum plaster or cement and sand grout (CSG). In locations where there are voids, break the wall through to access the void and fill it up with CSG.

Examine joints between the wall plate the adjoining surfaces. There must not be any gaps as well.

Step 2

Mount the sheathing frame to the wall to be soundproofed with the least possible space using KNAUF SP 100/50 mm metal frame elements according to KNAUF process chart. Guide elements of the frame should not adjoin the floor and the ceiling tightly. Apply two layers of MaxForte damping tape under guide profiles.

Important! Stud profiles of the metal frame should not be fastened to the walls: the profile should be installed as thrust between the floor and the ceiling.

The optimum spacing between the metal frame studs is 600 mm. In order to reinforce the frame (if loads on the future wall are expected), doubled stud profiles fastened to each other with self-tapping screws can be mounted.

Step 3

Fill the space between the metal frame studs tightly with MaxForte ECOplate 60 kg/m3 sound absorbing material. The plates should be laid in two layers.

Step 4

Mount the sheathing materials in three layers as follows: GF 10 mm + GF 10 mm + GP 12.5 mm.

а. Gypsum fiberboard (GF) 10 mm in thickness in two layers with seam spacing in the first and second layers.

b. Treat the seams between the GF sheets with MaxForte silicone sealant.

c. Gypsum plasterboard (GP) 12.5 mm in thickness.

Seam spacing should be ensured: joints between GF sheets and joints between GP sheets should be placed apart at a distance equal to half of the sheet width.

Step 6

After the sheathing has been mounted, cut off the excess of damping tape and treat the seams along the perimeter (i.e. where the soundproofing structure adjoins the walls, the floor and the ceiling) with MaxForte non-drying silicone sealant.
